Overview
The critical limitation in accurately quantifying the radiation dose absorbed by mammary glandular tissue in diagnostic imaging procedures is of great interest to medicine today. Using MonteCarlo simulation techniques in Geant-4 software, the study develops an advanced computational model to evaluate the interaction of X-radiation with breast tissue, with the aim of minimising potential risks of radiation exposure. There are several parameters that can be varied in order to observe these behaviours such as phantom thickness, exposure time and the materials that can be used to create the X-rays of the mammogram. Analysing these different parameters will lead to a better understanding of the behaviour of the phantom exposed to radiation. The anthropomorphic design of the breast is expected to have a considerable influence on the estimation of the dose absorbed by the mammary glands.
